Truly a rare find! The famous doll manufacturing company SFBJ PARIS FRANCE, known worldwide for its Bébé Jumeau Dolls, was formed in 1899, when a group of French doll firms merged to save the dying doll industry which was being usurped by the Germans. They founded SFBJ (Societé Francaise de Fabrication de Bébés et Jouets). The company rarely diverted from its doll collection, but when it did the results were unique and well made. This mint condition vintage Madonna is a fine example of this. She stands with outstretched arms under a blue cloak and white robe standing on a serpent so as to remove all evil. She measures 8" high and is stamped on the back bottom rim SFBJ in a circle with UNIC on top and FRANCE on the bottom. There is the letter M on the left and the number 149 on the right.
