Now you can iron your clothes just like your great grandmother did with this flat bottom potable wood stove which was the concept behind charcoal heated irons of the 1800's. Instead of heating the iron on the stove, this form of antique iron acted as the stove itself. These types of irons typically had features like chimneys, vents, drafts, dampers, and other means of dealing with the problems of regulating the heat source and exhausting the smoke. The trick was not to smudge the clean washing from the burning ashes as they escaped by way of the many vent holes.
This very rare and hard to find charcoal pressing iron was manufactured in England during the Victorian age. It has a wood handle, and embossed on the protective heat shield are the words "Victoria Registered" and it bears the insignia of Her Royal Majesty Queen Victoria. The top of the chimney is embossed "6in" and the damper bears the word "Trojan" in embossed letters. The top of the iron releases by means of a moving latch. The base of the iron measures 6" in length and the overall height of the iron measures 8". A truly fine example of a British made charcoal pressing iron and a must have for any collector of antique irons.
