About Us
I really don't know where to begin this introduction, after being in the antique and collectible business for over twenty five years and enjoying every minute of it. My daughter once asked me what I really like best about this business? Coming from a seven year old I really did not know what to answer. I thought about it for a few seconds and then replied "I guess it's the friends we made along the way" and then I started to think back to how it all began.
My husband "Marvin" was looking for a new business venture. We were always collecting one thing or another, going to auctions and yard sales and of course never selling anything. We always talked about starting an antiques and collectible shop. Marvin had his ideas and I had mine and perhaps thats why it probably took us longer then anticipated to get this venture off the ground. But Marvin has his own special ways of doing things and when the UPS driver rang our door bell with several large boxes addressed to "GUESS WHO" from a company called Topps (something or the other) I thought it was some kind of a joke. "Sign here" replied the driver. Since I could not reach Marvin, I signed rather reluctantly and waited impatiently for "MY BELOVED" to come home. Upon his arrival I casually mentioned that some boxes came for him. "GREAT" he replied. What's in the boxes honey? - BASEBALL CARDS. I won't go into detail of what I said that night, but when I finally calmed down Marvin simply said "You know how we always talked about going into the collectible business. Well guess what? Before I knew it we were doing weekend card shows and selling to folks we knew. People were always asking us if we wanted to buy their collections. Marvin had a theory - never buy collections at a show, the odd card or other memorabilia was OK, but never collections. Upon visiting these peoples' homes to evaluate their collections we always asked if they had any other memorabilia for sale. Some said yes and took out everything they had and dumped it on the kitchen table while others wanted to know if we wanted to buy their antique furniture or pieces of china or crystal that they had hidden away in drawers or their Royal Doulton figurines displayed in their curios. We quickly read and learned everything we could about antiques and how to date china and crystal, and started buying and selling the odd piece. We started doing antique shows, our inventory kept getting larger and larger and our house became a maze of antique furniture and collectibles so that sometimes we could not find the kids. I was at my wits end, but I fell in love with this business and lo and behold, Marvin, in his mysterious ways called me one April afternoon and said "I need you to come down here right away - mark down this address. "What's the matter" I asked. Nothing - hurry up. I pawned the kids off with neighbors, and upon my arrival, Marvin was standing in front of a store with a "for rent" sign in the window. What do you think? What do I think about what? I replied. The store (pointing to it with his finger). The landlord had just put the for rent sign in the window and I told him I would give him an answer by 5:00 p.m. that afternoon. Again, I cannot repeat what I said, but by 3:30 p.m we had negotiated a lease with the landlord and opened our first antique and collectible shop catering to collectors, decorators, and to people just looking for something that caught their eye. We have since moved to our present location, added a small art gallery for up and coming artists to sell their works and continued with our tradition of providing the finest quality antiques and collectibles at the best possible prices and keeping in mind one thing - He/she who has the most antiques - WINS.
HAVE A GREAT DAY AND THANK YOU FOR VISITING OUR SHOP
