At YEARS AFTER, we specialize in Antiques, Antique and Vintage Jewelry & Collectibles with the Majority dating from the Romantic Victorian 1800's Era to the Modernist Mid-Century and 1960's Period from all Corners of the Globe. Because what makes Us ALL Great is The Combination of ALL Eras and ALL Influences!
History always played an important role on Jewelry and Jewelry always reflected History. In the 1800's, during the reign of Queen Victoria, the Victorians expressed deep sentiment, a love of nature and their romanticism in the visual arts which was evident in their Jewelry Design. Much of the Victorian Jewelry consisted of the Hair of Loved Ones in Mourning Brooches, Necklaces, Rings, etc. The Victorians valued Bracelets made from their Children’s Baby Teeth, Handpainted Flower Porcelain Brooches, Serpent and Floral Engraved Lockets & Pins, Cut Steel Buckles, Whitney Jet & French Jet Jewelry, and many with Gems, Enamel, and Seed Pearls which represented tears! Much of their Jewelry was Unsigned.
The Art Nouveau Jewelry Period itself, 1885 to 1905, had an important influence on Jewellery Designers and Artists such as Alphonse Muncha gave another form of expression that was unlimited in design with styles that included Beautiful Woman, flowing lines and a show of a love for nature with Flower Motifs!
The Edwardian Jewelry Era began in 1901 to 1915 after the death of Queen Victoria with lots of Elegant Filigree Jewelry, much of it consisting of Sterling Silver Lavaliere Pendants set with Paste Stones.
The Style of the Arts and Crafts Jewelry Era, 1905 to 1935 (which spanned throughout the time period of the Art Nouveau, Edwardian and Art Deco Period) was an Artistic Design Movement. Famous Designers and Architects such as Gustav Stickley and Frank Lloyd Wright made their mark during this time period. The Beauty of Jewelry Design was to purposely look hand-made rather than machine made and incorporated Natural Stones, Simple Functional Straight lines, Angular forms plus the Influences of Styles from all Eras.
The Roaring 1920's Art Deco Jewelry Era represented a liberated time! Women finally won the right to vote and expressed themselves more freely outwardly! Sleek Designs, Short Hairstyles, Looser Dresses and ones with Slinky Fringes along with Jewelry Accessories such as Long Czechoslovakian Earrings, Glass & Enamel Pins, Antique Celluloid, Vintage Bakelite Brooches and Flapper Beaded Necklaces became the Fashion Craze! When King Tut’s Treasures were discovered in 1922, so much Jewelry was designed around an Egyptian theme. The Art Deco period lasted until the mid to later 1930's.
Vintage Plastics such as Celluloid was invented by John Wesley Hyatt in 1869 and was widely used in 1890-1917 all through the Victorian Era, Art Nouveau and parts of the Art Deco Period. So many Vanity Items, Writing Instruments, Dolls, Brooches, Necklaces, etc. consisted of Celluloid. Because Celluloid is highly flammable, manufacturing had discontinued making it highly collectible today.
Bakelite, a Vintage Plastic too, made from a Phenol Formaldehyde Resin invented by Leo Hendrik Baekeland in 1907, found it's great use for providing the public with less expensive items during hard times of World War II plus it is unmeltable! So much Jewelry & Kitchenware Utensils was made of Vintage Bakelite. Lucite, another Vintage Plastic, was actually invented by the Chemists of the Dupont Company in 1931 during the Art Deco Period and was durable and practical for the production of supplies during World War II and also became a popular medium for Fashionable Jewelry, as well as Lucite Handbags in the 1950's and was also incorporated into Bakelite Utensils!
By the late 1930's throughout the Fabulous 1940's the style now known as Retro Modern was very much in evidence. Retro Modern is not a period style but a definite recognizable style of jewelry design. Large Vermeil Pins and Pendants with Flower Motifs tied with Bows plus influences from the Art Deco Period are great examples of this time period. Much of Retro Modern Jewelry is Gold over Sterling Silver.
Vintage Mexican Silver Jewelry is also a Wonderful Collectible with Fred Davis and William Spratling as the leaders of the revival of the Mexican Silver Jewelry Industry. There are still many unknown Mexican Designers that produced superb pieces and deserve long awaited credit. With time and more research, their names will become known and their Jewelry more valuable.
With Our Vintage and Antique Dolls, we search for Quality and Special Character. All our Dolls wear Old Clothing that is Freshly Laundered and Pressed (a service which is costly but totally free for you) unless they are already in Very Good Clean Sturdy Condition. There is no such thing as Patina on Clothing so if you leave the clothing as is then the acid from age will deteriorate it. We want you to feel comfortable to hug your doll when she arrives to your home and love her without restrictions. We take pride and care about all the items you receive from us. Remember too that a Doll that has lip rubs is a Doll that was kissed a lot and that doesn't take away from the value.
