This gorgeous green celluloid vanity box just takes my breath away! Extra large size - it measures 15 x 13 inches and 4 inches high. All molded and painted celluloid over a substantial wooden box. Fabulous romantic raised relief of a cherub, a man in flowing robes and a woman with a basket of flowers. Doves and flowers surround them. Close up photos will reveal the paint loss under the celluloid. Lovely celluloid swirls border this fantasy scene. No matter what the flaws about this antique celluloid vanity box, it's the most beautiful one I've ever seen. Other items of note that must be described and, if this box is for you, won't matter too much: most of the corners are missing some celluloid, revealing the wood and corner construction. Where there's an edge of celluloid - in particular on the bottom edges of the box, the glue that was holding the sheets of celluloid in place has dried and you'll want to find the perfect spot for this box and not move it around too much. It's very secure but you may chip the edges if you drag it or fiddle with the bottom (so no fiddling, please). The interior is a peach colored pleated satin with a round mirror that also has a peach colored velvet trim. The mirror has some silver loss at the top edge and some other scratches but is in remarkable condition given the age of this box. The bottom of the box's interior has a peach colored paper over the satin lining, which is intact: no rips or tears, just soiled as you'll see in some of the photos and held in place by the original nail heads. Two brass hinges on the interior keep the lid from swinging all the way back, two brass decorative clasps on the exterior will require a little nudging to close.
