In 1931, Henry Ford announced that his company would produce an eight-cylinder car, if only because his competitors were building four and six cylinder cars. The result, introduced in 1932, was the Ford Motor Company’s first V8-powered car. The “Deuce” was a design and technological departure destined to become the quintessential hot rod template. This 1970's go kart version of the "Deuce" has provenance equally as impressive as it originally came from the famed Phipps estate (now Westbury Gardens) on Long Island's gold coast. Originally, it was a gift for one of the Phipps' children given in the early 1970's. It's current owner painstakingly restored the "Deuce" using the highest quality available products for vintage go kart restoration. As is evidenced on the emblem on the back, parts for the restoration came from the ultimate source for vintage go karts, Crue-Cut Manufacturing Company in Kansas. The body is original and repainted. The engine was rebuilt. What was purchased to restore this rare gem is as follows: tires, battery, bumpers, lights front and back, hub caps, interior (seats and rugs), all stainless nuts and bolts. The body is marine quality, high strength fiberglass, the drive is forward, neutral and reverse transmission, a four cycle, 8 HP Tecumseh gasoline engine. Electric start and alternator. Steering is pinion and sector with adjustable tie rod ends, Throttle is pedal operated with jam resistant system, The Brakes are pedal operated, 8-inch band brake. Adjustable brake pads to compensate for wear. Wheel base is 56 inches, overall length 83 inches. Inside length 28 inches. Gas powered and road ready. There is an interesting, custom addition of a Kennedy half dollar on the top of the hood at the spot where a hood ornament would be.Please take a look at the photos. I also have photos of the restoration, if you'd like to email me. The consignor is willing to transport this go kart anywhere on Long Island, NY for a reasonable price depending on the destination. Otherwise, this item is PICK UP ONLY with full insurance on your own. I did have to choose a shipping method in order to list it, so if you want to arrange for your own freight shipping, I will make myself available to meet the freighting company at the kart's location.
