A good example of a pedestal mounted Kaleidoscope, probably made in France in the 1870s. This one has a metal body covered with contemporary fabric and is set onto a turned polished fruitwood base The general condition is good throughout, but the images formed by the internal mirrors are very good, with original black glass reflectors. The image can be rotated by turning the lever which projects from the ground glass screen holder. There are no maker's marks on the instrument. The tube can be removed from the base.
See Optical Toys under Collectibles for other Kaleidoscopes.
Approx Overall Size of Instrument 11.25x10ins dia (28x25cms dia). Kaleidoscope tube 10x2ins dia (25x5cms dia)
