I have never been able to identify this doll. Actually, I've never seen another doll that even slightly resembles her, so she's always been a bit of a delightful puzzle to me. Even the material she's made of is a bit of a mystery. I believe her head is composition as she has fine crazing around her mouth and nose, but if you tap the head with a fingernail, it sounds like bisque so it could be a painted bisque head and the paint is crazing. She has a metal loop inserted in the top of her head which is where the bow is tied. The body is very heavy and also looks and sounds like painted bisque. I'm not certain that the head and body have always been together. As you can tell, I'm a bit puzzled by certain aspects of this doll.

What I'm not puzzled about is the wonderful appeal of this doll. Her face is amazing, especially the eyes which are heavily lashed and shadowed. Her mouth is a deep red and her cheeks have a spot of color on each. Her hair is molded and painted a soft brown. Her outfit is also adorable and consists of an antique lace-trimmed onesie and sweet little vintage dress. She is not marked in any way, but based on her curly bobbed hairstyle and facial painting, I would date her to between 1910-1920. If anyone can shed any light as to her origins, please don't hesitate to email me. I'd love to have her identified for her new owner.
