This wonderful antique quilt is entirely handstitched and is in fabulous condition. This pattern has been known by a variety of names including "Six-Sided Patchwork" and "Hexagon Patchwork." An 1856 novel by Catharine Brooks Yale describes a "Job's Troubles" quilt made from red, yellow and various colored calicoes cut into hexagons. All three of these names are listed with the pattern in quilt identification books.

The colors and materials in this quilt are truly stunning. The majority of the fabric, including the black material, looks to be silk crepe. There are beautiful paisley's and plaids used in the design as well. The red 'bright path' is just beautiful.

Measurements: 80" long by 64 1/4" wide

Condition: There are 2 small rents in the fabric, one of which I've pictured. There is minor fraying on portions of the edge binding. It needs to be professionally cleaned and/or aired. There is a whiff of mustiness when held to the nose.

I purchased this quilt from the living estate of an 86 year old woman, who told me that her grandmother had made this quilt. I also purchased a crazy quilt, which is in a separate listing, which was made by the woman's mother. She also told me that both quilts had been entered into a quilt exhibit, and that's why the numbered tags are sewn onto the back of each quilt.

I am not a quilt expert, but have researched these quilts and have talked to quilters and antique quilt dealers who have given me the information as to the age, pattern, and fabrics.

Please contact me if you need further information.
