Antique Child's Linen Slat Bonnet

I believe this wonderful old child's slat bonnet is circa 1870-1880. Initially, I thought it might date to the turn of the century, but after doing some research, and the fact that it is completely hand stitched, I believe it is much earlier than turn of the century. Even though it is stained and has mellowed to a dark ivory color, it is in excellent condition. The original ties are intact, all the stitching is intact, and there is only one small frayed area on the bavolet or apron that would cover the wearer's neck. From the top of the crown to the bottom of the longest part of the bavolet, the measurement is 12 3/4". The back of the bonnet, where the back of the wearer's head would fit measures 6 1/2" across. I have pictured the bonnet on one of my larger dolls whose head has a 15" circumference. It is a bit large for her, but gives you a good idea of size. The pockets for the slats have been fitted with pieces of cardboard that are not original. This bonnet is a wonderful piece, and would be perfect for Civil War re-enactors or for dressing an antique doll.
