In the center are two vibrant colored peacocks decorated with gorgeous colored daisies enclosed in double rows of hearts on three sides of the spread. It has the most stunningly full pattern.
Most of these bedspreads have open or 'un-chenilled' areas, but this fine example is jam packed with design everywhere...making it a most unusual early example.
The color scheme is beautiful with a soft chocolate, cocoa color background. The peacocks are in shades of red, orange, lime green and black. You also have vibrant colored daisies.
SIZE: Measures approx. 94" x 104". I have it displayed on a queen size bed with a pillow top….so it is a very deep mattress. This is sized for a double or queen bed with a bedskirt. Nice versatile size.
CONDITION: very very good pre-owned with no stains. I already washed this spread before listing it, and it held up beautifully. This is truly a bedspread that can be used.
However, (1) I found a small hole next to of one of the curly cues on the side of one of the rounded bottoms near the edge. I did not find this until I inspected it from the BACK side. This does not show on the front because of where it is located.
2) a very small section of fabric missing, this is an easy fix, just hem it in that area. These minor flaws are mentioned for accuracy, but NOT noticeable on the bed.
HISTORY: These older chenille spreads have a captivating history. From the 1930's til the 1950's, there was a stretch of highway going through Georgia that was referred to as Peacock Alley. Travelers from the East Coast on their way South to vacation would see these colorful handmade chenille bedspreads hanging on clotheslines. The local ladies had found a new way to market their gorgeous bright peacock chenille bedspreads and an important cottage industry was born.
