A. Micallef & Co. Inc. was founded in 1919 in Providence, RI producing AMCO costume jewelry. They produced a fine line of costume jewelry, in the same class as Krementz. This type of jewelry was sometimes known as "Bridge" jewelry, bridging the area between costume and fine.

This is a lovely example of the type of jewelry they specialized in. Gorgeous taupe or carmel colored hand carved cameo stones set in 12 kt Gold filled jewelry. This measures 7.5" in the entirety and each little cameo is 1/2". They are obviously hand carved, as even though they are very alike, close examination show tiny differences. This has probably been put away as someones "good" jewelry as it doesn't even look as though it were worn.

A beautiful reminder of a time gone by, never to come again. AMCO costume jewelry has never been cheap and is sought after by collectors. The A. Micallef company ceased operations in the late 1970’s
