This circa 1910 bar pin features a hand-colored steeple chase scene with a horse and rider jumping over a fence on the reverse side of a glass or crystal bobble. The bobble is bezel set with a closed back and mounted on a slender bar pin with a textured finish. The early 1900's style safety clasp is stamped 14K. The fox hunt scenes were a popular motif in the late Victorian antique jewelry and early 20th century fine and costume jewelry. Sporting jewelry became more popular as women became more involved in outdoor activities. This type of jewelry was worn on more tailored clothes.
