This magnificent signed Sherman set is definitely a much earlier Sherman, judging by the size of the stones (Sherman used larger stones in the earlier days) and the overall design which is larger and heavier, both in looks and weight, than were his sleeker later designs.

The 16 1/2" necklace (including extender) weighs about 60 grams. That incredible centerpiece runs a full 6" of the necklace, broadening from a single row of faux alexandrite swarovski crystals to a triple row at approximately 1/2" wide and punctuated by 3 fabulous large stones over which are layered a cluster of crystals in a bow-like design.

All the stones are incredibly clear and sparkling. Those 3 large stones measure approximately 5/8" long by 1/2" wide. The bow-like clusters are 1" wide. Big, bold and utterly beautiful in faux alexandrite stones that change from a lovely blue/green to lavender/mauve as the light changes. See the merged photos to see what we mean.

The clip-on earrings again, are big and bold. They will run along your ear for 1 3/4" and are 3/4" wide at their widest point. The Sherman stamp appears in block lettering on the clips and there's also a patent number on them: 258398. Like I said, this is one rare Sherman.

The signature on the back on the necklace is in script but someone has also inscribed the date 1995 onto that center stone. I'm guessing this might have been when a previous owner acquired the set. Most certainly, it was manufactured decades prior to that.

Given its age, the wear to the silver rhodium-plate on the necklace is really minimal. The earrings show a little more corrosion but nothing major. We've provided rear view photos to give you a better idea.

Completing your purchase of this set and adding considerably to its value as a collector's item is the original box in which it came. It measures 7" X 4.5" X 1", with a satin interior and a lavender/pink velvet exterior. What's really interesting about this old Sherman box is that the interior has only a scripted "Sherman" printed on the lid, not the logo we've become used to seeing in boxes of Sherman jewelry ie. "Jewels of elegance by Sherman". Again, this is probably due to its age ie. both box and set were produced before the motto was coined.

Well that's about it for this fabulous necklace/earring set that in my opinion, is one of the most beautiful faux alexandrite sets ever made by Sherman.
