This absolutely lovely 14k yellow gold vintage heart pendant was originally sold to me as dating to Victorian times but I think the seller might have mistaken it for jewelry by the William Holmes Company in England in late 1800's. By its design and repousse work, it certainly looks like it could date to that era, but the stamp on the back looks later than that: it's stamped 14k and WH Co inside what's left of a heart. Research and questioning others leads me to believe this was actually made by the W. & H. JEWELRY CO., Inc., which manufactured jewelry in Providence, Rhode Island as early as the 1940's.
The heart itself measures just over 1/2" long X 1/2' wide at its widest point. With the bale, it's 7/8". Now just look at the close-ups of that heart: the detail ie. repousse work is gorgeous. The colors of the gold are a mix of yellow, rose and green. And nestled in the center of the heart is a real diamond!
Now that diamond wasn't there when I purchased this: it had an ugly, darkened paste stone. So we had our jeweler remove it and replace it by a .05 diamond of top quality ...eye clean and bright. We also added the chain, a 14k box chain made in Italy that is 18" long.
This would make a lovely graduation or birthday gift.
