When we took it in to be appraised, our jeweler sighed and said "They just don't make them like this any more!" and how right he is. From it's design, down to its quality, this is a rare and valuable heirloom necklace that conjures up visions of ladies in low-cut bouffant gowns and those high white wigs peering through their lorgnettes at the jewels all the other ladies are wearing. At least, that's what I see!

But now to the details: dangling from an 18" hallmarked chain with a secure, cylindrical clasp is this stunning pendant reminiscent of a wreath with a bow at the top. It measures 1.5" east to west and nearly 2" north to south from below the linking bezel to the bottom of the pear-shaped amethyst drop.

The bezel, "bow" and sections of the "wreath" contain 61 bead-set round cut brilliant diamonds of F-G color for a total of half-carat of diamonds. The wreath is further studded with 24 bezel set round mixed cut natural amethysts. The interplay of color and stones is simply dazzling.

Then come the bigger amethysts: you get one claw-set squared amethyst of .90 cts just below the bow, and one claw-set pear-shaped natural amethyst of 1.75cts dangling from the bottom of the wreath. The total weight of the amethysts in this pendant is 3.37cts. Please click on photo #8 to bring up all the details of the appraisal which puts this fabulous necklace at a value of $3350 CAD, or about $3100 USD.

The total weight of the pendant is 14.20 grams giving it a substantial gold weight as well. The back of the pendant is stamped 14k and can just be seen in top third of photo # 9

Just another unusual thing I'd like to point out about this necklace can be seen in the last photo, #9, where I've merged 3 views of the necklace. Notice the top section of that photo: it shows how the bezel holding the wreath/bow pendant is opened to attach the pendant as well as thread the chain through. I've not seen one quite like this.

I don't think I can praise this piece highly enough and I doubt I'll find another like it soon. If this is your kind of jewelry, I wouldn't wait too long to add it to your collection. Like the man said, "they just don't make them like this anymore!"
