I knew when I saw this for the first time that I had uncovered a rare treasure! Not only was this necklace 18k gold with lots of rubies but its design was utterly unique: it had the look of expensive costume jewelry but with one big difference: this is no costume jewelry. It's real gold and real gemstones!

Measuring nearly 18" long, it's comprised of ten 3/4" leaf-like links, each containing 5 rubies. These meet in the center where a gorgeous pendant, 1 3/8" long dangles becomingly. This pendant contains another 10 rubies, bringing the total ruby count to 60. According to the accompanying appraisal (Please double-click photo to read it) the rubies are oval mixed-cut and natural, measuring 3.5 X 3.00 X 1.60mm, bringing the total carat weight of the rubies to 8.40 cts.

This hand-assembled, custom-made necklace has a high polished finish. It's 18k gold is a deep, butter-yellow color, and the overall weight of the necklace is 21.40 grams.

The appraisal accompanying this listing was done on February 18, 2009 and puts the retail replacement value at $4150.00 CAD. In US dollars at today's exchange rate, that's approximately $3800 USD at current exchange.
