But if you are happy with a having a dainty ring with a genuine alexandrite stone that does what real alexandrite does ie. change from a deep green to a velvety purple as the light source changes, and you don't mind 10k yellow gold, then this one will please you. This is a genuine, not lab-created stone. As our jeweler said, that's about as big as you can get them without paying an arm and a leg!

The ring is a generous size 8 1/2 by my ring-sizer but you should have no problem sizing it down if you need to. The 4mm diameter alexandrite stone is securely held in a 6-prong setting which sits proudly 4mm above the band. The band is about 3mm wide at the top and tapers to 2mm at the bottom. The ring weighs 3 grams. The inner band is stamped CI and 10k.

We've tried hard to show you the color change in the stone so please double-click the pictures to see what we saw. Look carefully and you'll see the transitions from a bluish shade to green to purple.

This is a lovely stone in an attractive setting and given the price, it's a steal!
