Old Pair of South American Indian Carved Wooden Nude Busts

This is a very well carved pair of old South American Indian wooden nude busts depicting a man and a woman with elaborate jewelery and head gear. These are good sized carvings of solid dark wood, each about 8-8.5" tall. The carvings are very well executed, though unsigned.

The female bust has textured long hair wrapped across the back of her head, a pipe stuck in her hairdo, and a narrow headband. She has large holes in her earlobes from which hand large hoop earrings. She wears a crescent shaped necklace and is bare breasted.

The male bust has shorter textured hair, a wide twisted headband, and pipe stuck through the headband, and a round bun like object attached to the back of his head. He also has large holes in his earlobes and wears large hoop earrings. He has a rope necklace with a large round center bead, and is bare chested.

The busts each measures 8"-8.5" tall. The woman's pipe projects higher maker her bust a little taller. They are about 6.25" across the shoulders and 4" front to back.

Condition: Both sculptures are a bit dusty and could use a gentle cleaning. The female bust has a noticeable crack coming up from the base in the front between her breasts. The male has a lesser crack int he same vicinity. The lines through the earrings are not cracks. The earrings were made in 2 pieces and then glued together through the ear lobe holes.

These are beautiful ethnic carvings of great sensitivity. They are also fairly heavy since they are solid wood.
