This is a fine old dark brown pressed mourning brooch in the form of a flying cupid or young angel carrying a garland. It dates from the 2nd half of the 1800s. It has a brass pin stem and C clasp. There are no markings. I believe that it is composed of pressed horn material though it could be vulcanite or gutta percha.

The brooch measures 2.25" x 1.5".

Condition is good considering the age and the material.

This brooch is unusual for the material used, large size, and appealing subject matter. Very seldom seen.
