This is an unusual 15" tall example of an old jointed wooden dancing doll representing an American Indian. These dolls went by various names such as Jiggers (for dancing the jig) or Dancing Dans. They had a simple stick handle inserted straight into the back to hold them over a paddle that the user would tap to make the doll dance. This home made version has been decoratively painted in turkey red and yellow ocher and given a fringed leather skirt and headdress.
Condition is generally good. He has no stick handle or paddle. There are 3 holes in the back where the stick handle would have been inserted. The users must have changed the placement , thus the extra holes. There is some minor scuffing of the paint on the chest.
This is an excellent example of this form of Folk Art toy doll.
