SALE Antique Victorian Sterling Silver Horse Brooch

This unique antique sterling silver (unmarked but tested) brooch contains a standing white horse encased beneath beveled glass. I can't tell what the horse is made from through the glass. It could be bone, ivory or the kind of celluloid known as French ivory. The brooch is lovingly engraved on the back with the arced name Edna Johnson, framed beautifully with scrolls. Clearly Edna adored her horse.

The brooch has a decorative twisted wired frame. It has its original C clasp and T hinged pin stem on the back. It measures 1.5" x 1.125". It weighs 11 gr.

Condition: The horse contained within the brooch was once glued in place but is no longer fixed in place. When it moves to one side slightly there is a lighter area underneath it that is exposed. Typical silver tarnish and minor age wear as would be expected in an antique piece.

I judge this to be a one of a kind personalized piece. A wonderful prize for someone who loves both horses and antique jewelry.
