This is a 17" tall ethnic African doll identified by a tag on the base as representing the Dan tribe from the Ivory Coast. The doll is wearing ceremonial dress and a vivid red wooden mask.

This figure's body is a sturdy wood base completely covered in the ceremonial costume. The legs are wrapped in a cotton print cloth. A woven grass skirt is tied on at the waist. This is topped by a coarsely woven black and white striped top. Animal skins with fur adorn the ankles, neck and back of the head. The "hands" hold tassels of coarse long hair of some sort. The head is covered in the printed cotton cloth and another band of plaid fabric, plus red wool tassels on the sides of the head. The face is defined by the remarkable red white and black painted wooden mask.

A very interesting doll with a strong presence.
