This is one of the interesting older vintage ethnic dolls I currently have available. This gentleman is wearing clothing that I believe represents one of the Middle Eastern countries or perhaps in the vicinity of India or even Indonesia. I haven't been able to find an exact match to this style of clothing so far.

He stands 12.5" tall. His lower legs, arms and head are carved wood. The head has a very deep shoulder plate that can be felt inside the clothing. The torso feels as though it is stuffed with sawdust. The carved parts are fairly well done and have painted details. The tops of the feet are painted gold. The eyes, eyebrows, lips and hair, and headdress are all painted as well.

The clothing is all silk. He is wearing a sarong skirt in beige with gold details that appear to have been daubed on with paint on a finger tip. Under the skirt are cream colored pants, very tight over the lower legs and flaring out with a ruffle at the ankle. The pant legs have a row of tiny beads going up each side of the leg to simulate buttons. There is an embroidered band of ribbon around the waist, with a small ruched bundle of red silk in the center. He wears an orange silk top, with further gold color applied to the collar. The center panel of the top once held a different color fabric but it is shredding.

Condition: The silk panel in the front of the blouse is shredded. the front of the blouse is slightly faded in color. The collar has separated from the top at the back of the neck. There are some stains on the clothing, mostly on the back of the sarong skirt.

He is a very interesting and well made doll. I only wish I knew his specific ethnicity.
