New items added this week and more coming in mid August. My vacation break will be 7/26-8/16. Have a wonderful summer!
She stands 15" tall. Age is estimated to be circa 1860s-1870s.
She has a worn carved wood shoulder head, with pinkish painted skin tones and black painted hair. Most of the paint is rubbed off from the high points on the face, across the cheeks, chin, nose, lips and forehead. Also the black paint is worn off of the high points of the hair.
The body resembles some commercial bodies of the period, but with some alterations. Someone has given the arms and feet a coat of some sort of white paint, though this is well worn. The body was once pink, but has faded and darkened with age. There is a patch across one knee and the cloth upper arms have been recovered. There is also a band of cloth around the chest as reinforcement. I note a small split in the fabric at the waist in the back.
The doll is dressed in an old wool/cotton blend plaid skirt and blouse, both lined in black cotton.
If you cherish primitive wooden folk art items then you might find that this old doll tugs at your heart. She is not beautiful in the usual meaning, but her dignity shines through never the less.
