What a rarity! This is a miniature tin tole painted document box from the 19th century. It measures 3" square by 2.25" tall.

All tole painting is intact and bright. There is some discoloration to the dark background. It is missing a knob from the top of the lid. The interior is painted a dark brick red. There is a small amount of old wax residue dripped inside the box, which makes me wonder if it might have been used to store wax seals.

It is a charming little box. So hard to find in this size.
