SALE Antique Sterling Brooch with Fine Painted Miniature of a Pretty Woman

This is a handsome brooch in sterling silver (tested) containing a hand painted miniature portrait of a beautiful young woman. The setting is marked "A", "illegible", and "FR". The center mark might be a French boar's head mark for silver 800 and above in content, but it is not clear. Another possibility of a match is an Irish mark, in which case the "A" would be the date mark for 1821.

The brooch measures 35mm x 45mm. The setting is simple, decorated only by a rope edge. The pin stem and C clasp are original. It appears that the C clasp may have been reinforced by the addition of a more metal.

The painted portrait is under glass. The subject is a young lady in 3/4 view facing to the right. Her hair is worn up with tendrils of side curls in front of her ears. She is wearing a blue dress, red scarf and large elaborate double layer lace collar. I did not attempt to open the brooch to test the material the painting is done on.

Condition is good.
