Homer Laughlin Liberty Large Platter ~ Queen Esther

This beautiful platter is a recent estate acquisition. It is the large platter, 13 1/2" x 11", by Homer Laughlin in the Liberty Shape. The Liberty shape has the "Gadroon" edge which consists of an embossing in the form of a delicate braid. This particular piece is highlighted in gold. The large rose was used on other pieces and the unusual gold pattern on the rim is reminiscent of a crown and makes this pattern, Queen Esther, special. Queen Esther was the Jewish wife of the Persian King Xerxes, who saved her people from slaughter by Haman, a Persian official who sought the destruction of the Jews. This beautiful platter is in wonderful condition with only minor gold wear. The back is hallmarked Homer Laughlin.
