Syracuse Econo Rim Burgundy Trim Platter ~ "Cardinal" ~1942

This nice platter was recently acquired from a South Louisiana estate. It is by Syracuse China in the Econo Rim line and the backstamp dates it August, 1942. Thanks to information from a lovely fellow Ruby Lane dealer, this is the Cardinal pattern used by the St. Louis San Francisco Railroad. The pattern was never marked, so it is impossible to tell if it was actually used by the railroad or not. This restaurant ware was sometimes used in railroad dining cars because of limited table space and provided same size portions, thus the Econo Rim name. This platter is 11 1/4" x 9" and has the Econo Rim traditional embossed edge with the burgundy stripe. The platter well shows lots of wear, but it still maintains a nice gloss overall. There are no chips or cracks and the back is hallmarked with the Syracuse Econo Rim stamp, Trade Mark Patented.
