England Silver Plate Pipkin Cup

This lovely cup was recently acquired from a beautiful Southern estate. It is hallmarked England on the bottom and also has a Menorah and the number 40. The "Pipkin or Caudle Cup", more commonly known today as "Porringers", were designed of silver or pewter with wooden handles. Porringers were supposed to have been used for drinking spiced gruel, an ale of sugar and spices, and were commonly designed with one or two handles. This piece is in excellent condition and the vessel is 2 3/4" tall and approximately 3 1/4" wide. The handle is 7 1/2" long.
