Welcome fall with classic vintage clothes & accessories from the Vintage Merchant
There is a gorgeous strip of embroidery the entire length of the dress down the left side, satin stitch circles with chainstitch trim around the edges.
The dress is a simply cut shift with double princess darts in the front, and single princess darts in the back for fitting. There are extended shoulders into cap sleeves, and a 13" underarm metal zipper by Conmatic. There's also a hook and eye at the waist to secure the closure.
There is a partial lining attached at the shoulder, for the back of the dress.
This is tiny...laid flat, this is only 16.5"-17" at the bust (33-34"); ~ 15 down from the shoulder to the waist, it is 12" across (24" waist), and approximately 8" down from the waist, it is 17" across (for a tiny 34" hip). This is definitely cut close providing a sexy wiggle dress silhouette.
BTW, this is measuring seam to seam; please allow for movement as this is NOT knit, either.
This measures approximately 41" from shoulder to hem.
While measuring, we noticed that the SIDE seams look to have been taken in; we would NOT recommend hoping to let them out, though, as the fabric may retain a removed seam indentation. We also noticed that many of the seams have been reinforced; some seam allowances are generous, others are quite narrow.
At first glance, this IS a stunning dress. However, looking closely, this beauty does have some issues (photos of all included): we noticed some small snags near the zipper. There is a small hole on the back right cheek (about 3/16" x 1/4"). There is a very faint darkened area on the center front collar about 1/8" and an even fainter one about 4" below that. The partial LINING (not visible to anyone other than the wearer) looks like a "too hot" iron was used on it, and it (the lining) has some re-inforced seams, too.
We are pricing this with all those issues in mind. None the less, it is a classic dress from the late 50's/early 60's, and the embroidery and collar make this an interesting collection piece. A design student could surely use this is inspiration for an adorable one-of-a-kind dress of her own!
