These quality vintage winter coats from Europe are so well made, so collectible and SO desirable! This one is labeled "The Genuine Imported Loden Coat made in Lodenfrey Munich Western-Germany."

There is one other small label, it is in the loop & buttoned pocket IN the lining of the right side of the coat. It is an embroidered number "38" on a simple small sewn-in tag.

There are no fiber labels, although we're sure it is at least partially cashmere, blended with wool, most likely. The hand of this is FABULOUS... warm, soft, cozy!

This measures about 48" at the chest (under the arms), about 19" across the back shoulders, 39" from the back of the neck to the hem, 35.5" from the centerback to the hem of the sleeve, and 16.5" from the underarm seam to the hem of the sleeve. PLEASE COMPARE THESE MEASUREMENTS TO A COAT THAT FITS YOU WELL in order to determine fit of this for you, please.

This is a wonderful city coat, a great length (keeps your backside warm on those cold windy winter days and nights), but not so long as to get dirty or become an encumbrance when catching a train. This length is sometimes referred to as a car coat length, this suggests that this is from the late 1950s to 1960s. It is a subtle yet rich tweed of grey/charcoal/black.

This has amazing tailor-made detailing. It is a single breasted notch collar style. The front of the sleeve is set in, the back is raglan cut. It has triple seamed sleeves for a beautiful fit, with wrist tabs that actually button (rather than just faux for the look). The buttons are leather weave covered 1" shanks.

There are two bound-finished slash pockets on the front, with FLANNEL lining to help keep your hands even WARMER, AND the right pocket has an extra coin/watch pocket WITHIN the pocket (which just happens to be a great size for a modern cell phone).

The upper body and sleeves are lined in a gorgeous twill weave satin, while the lower body is a thick deep heather grey wool. This has a 2.75" back neck loop made of 3/8" satin ribbon.

The label itself is even cool, as it is zigzag trimmed suede with beautiful embroidered lettering and a crest with a wingspan eagle with another four panel crest on his chest.

This is an excellent classic men's coat...(didn't Frank Sinatra wear coats like this in some of his movies??...) ready to warm you for many snowy winter seasons to come!

~~~ A bit of Lodenfrey history:
The House of Lodenfrey has a history which spans more than 150 years and is characterized by incredible determination. This sheer determination, inherited from the House of Frey, has certainly been a major force behind the worldwide success of loden cloth.
1842: With his purchase of a licensed weaving mill in Munich, Johann Georg Frey lays the foundation stone for his worldwide business
1852: He already employs more than 100 craftsmen in his factory at the "Dianabad", which existed at that time in the famous English Garden in Munich
1854: The company's ceaseless endeavours to improve and further develop the loden cloth are rewarded with a gold medal from the World Exhibition in Paris
1870: Establishment of the factory in the Osterwaldstraße in Munich
1878: Johann Baptist Frey completes the lifework of his father by developing the very first truly water-repellent loden cloth - the so-called "napped loden". The worldwide success of loden cloth now begins. Loden-Frey is famous throughout the world for its range of traditional costume and loden clothing. This material is washed and pounded, and once used to be brushed with thistles until the fibres ended up stacked together like shingles so that the rain drops would run off it, a task that nowadays is entrusted to modern machinery.
1927: The company builds its very own clothing factory for making loden coats. In the true Frey tradition, turnover is able to be increased despite the economic crisis and the company is also able to meet the demands of an increasing export market through the establishment of additional factories.
1948: The Lodenfrey Corporation of America is set up. This is followed shortly afterwards by the establishment of a branch in France.
1956: Lodenfrey Austria is established. In the same year, the production of ladies' coats begins in addition to coats for the menswear market.
1968: The company receives the coveted "Comité du Bon Goût Français" cup - the Oscar of the fashion world
1979: Lodenfrey is awarded the City of Munich Fashion Prize - following in the footsteps of many prominent names such as Karl Lagerfeld, Cerruti and Missoni
1995: The introduction of the "Country Frey" Collection is met with great acclaim
2001: Today's advertising slogan: Lodenfrey: The Original.
