This is a very rare and amazing outfit that I date to 1913-1915, and has been in my personal collection for many years.

This is a two piece outfit, consisting of the capelet and the fine skirt. Both pieces are embroidered with crewel and trapunto embroidery on fine linen or cotton, accented with lace.

The capelet is a free size, made with white linen or fine cotton and trimmed out with two types of lace. The first lace appears to be machine-made of two types of lace and trims out the neckline and the edge of the capelet. The second lace appears to be hand-crochet and falls gracefully around the chest and below the shoulders. The linen has gorgeous robins-egg blue flowers embroidered in trapunto style, and the center of each flower has knotted thread in a crewel pattern. Simply gorgeous!

The bottom of the skirt has a wonderful band trimming your waist, with gathers gently fanning out from the waist trim. The skirt is typical of the 1913 style, with a shorter length than the Victorian period, so that the skirt shows the slip underneath, and peeks out from the shortened length, showing a bit of shoe too.

The skirt is decorated on the end with more robins-egg blue embroidery in matching flower design. The ends of the skirt are scalloped, and thread is trimming out the ends of the scallop in a matching blue color. There are 2 vintage snaps and 1 hook on the back of the skirt.

The measurements of the skirt are: Waist: 26" Length: 34" Hips: Free size

There are some typical age spots on the capelet and a light water stain on the skirt. All of these problems should come out with a professional cleaning from a textile restorer or museum-qualified cleaning service, and the price has been lowered to reflect this cost to the buyer. The back of the skirt is missing one hook, which will allow the buyer to adjust the waistband to their size. The lace on the capelet needs approximately three stiches to attach the trim to the crochet piece. I did not find any holes in the lace when I looked, but did find some threads were "pushed aside" to appear to be gaps in the lace.

There is a modern slip underneath the outfit which is not included.

This is truly a very rare outfit, which I have never seen anywhere else except museums in 30 years of collecting.
