When I first purchased this suit many years ago, I dreamed that one day I would fit it. Unfortunately, my dream never came true, but yours can!
This suit is very rare; I've never seen a double capelet suit with triple stitching on each capelet created out of 100% Virgin Wool in 30 years of collecting vintage. The amazing thistle buttons are just an added bonus.
The color is a deep red, not a bright lipstick red which might be showing on your monitor.
The suit has a wonderful foundation of a single breasted hourglass suit with a row of quality thistle buttons down the front. The two capelets are tucked nicely underneath the fantastic collar of this suit, which has two colors of a running stitch throughout the collar - a demure red running stitch on either side of the lapels, and a white running stitch at the rear of the collar.
The jacket has two faux pockets which are embellished with two more lovely thistle buttons; there are a total of 8 thistle buttons on this jacket. I have inlcuded a close up scan of the faux pocket; the three little dots are scratches on my scanner glass and are not defects of the suit. The jacket is lined as shown. Each sleeve ends in a lovely split sleeve end near the wrist. The buttons are stamped metal, and they were stamped on the reverse, resulting in a very high quality image of a thistle on the front. The rear of each button is securely adhered to the jacket with an extension of the button thread and shank, which ends in a very narrow band of plastic securing the button regardless of direction the button is turned.
The skirt is no less fantastic in its simplicity to support such a wonderful jacket. The skirt is high waisted, and gored to create an A-Line skirt, which is not lined. The zipper on the skirt is metal.
Interior jacket labels include: *Evans of Chicago, a well-known store open since 1929 which specialized in furs for the upper class of women. *Miron Woolens, 100% Virgin Wool. The Miron Woolen Mills were located in Clinton, MA. *The National Recovery Board label, which insured that workers were being paid a fair hourly wage and didn't work excessive hours
Jacket Measurements: Inside shoulder seams: 15.5" Outside shoulder seams: 17" Bust: 34" Sleeve length: 23.5"
Skirt Measurements: Waist: 24" Hips: 34" Length: 28"
There is very minor wear on this outfit, minor underarm stains on the interior, and minor wear from the button shanks. I can't find any major stains on the outside of this outfit, with the minor rubbings occuring on the interior of the jacket and not seen at all.
A wonderful foundation piece for any wardrobe.
