A fabulous, large pendant in the Art Nouveau style, hand-made in solid 18 carat gold, and set with a large Andamooka opal.
The opal is nestled in a garland of entwined gold leaves, decorated with green enamel, and a pendant garnet drop below.
The solid opal, having all the color and fire of a precious black opal, is real, natural matrix opal, known as Andamooka opal, that has been treated with sugar and acid to bring these colours to the surface - this has been verified by a Hatton Garden gemologist. It is not a synthetic stone. The estimated size is 20 cwt. The opal is highly attractive, with good depth of color, and displays red, orange, gold, green, purple, violet and blue. The colors are fantastic, flashing brilliantly with every movement of the wearer.
The pendant measures 6.5 cm. (2 ½) from the bail top to the base x 4.5 cm. (1 7/8) across ; the 18 carat gold snake chain measures 55 cm. (21 ½) in total length. The total weight is 21.3 grams.
The condition is perfect.
This fabulous, custom-made jewel comes in its custom-made fitted box of the highest quality.
Although without any markings at all, this was a commission piece by an Asprey jeweller, to make a fine setting for the opal that had been bought back from Australia during the first half of the 20th century. The piece has been with the family ever since.
It has been expertly designed and constructed, and is a one-off piece of bespoke jewellery, and, therefore unique. A beautiful piece, and very, very rare indeed.
The pendant wears beautifully, and looks absolutely fabulous.
