1852 Baltimore & Ohio Stock Certificate. The Baltimore and Ohio started in the 1830s as the one of the first railroads in the U.S. This is the first of their certificate series, showing the very early “Tom Thumb” train with the stagecoach like passenger car. It is signed by Thomas Swann, who was president of the Baltimore & Ohio (1848-1853) when the Baltimore and Ohio was extended to the Ohio River, mayor of Baltimore (1856-60), and a strong Union supporter during the Civil War. Certificate is in VF condition, with punch cancellations.
