1856 Virginia & Tennessee RR Stock Certificate. Attractive pre Civil War Virginia railroad with central vignette of open cab steam locomotive pulling several cars around a bend. The Virginia & Tennessee served southwestern Virginia with a 204 mile line from Lynchburg VA to Bristol TN. During the Civil War, the railroad was a key supply, food and troop movement route for the Confederate Army, providing the link between the Confederate capital of Richmond to the interior at Chattanooga, Tennessee. After the war, this line was combined with the South Side Railroad and the Norfolk and Petersburg Railroad forming the Atlantic, Mississippi and Ohio Railroad. VF+ condition
