1853 New York Central $1000 RR bond signed by Erastus Corning. Historic old certificate with great vignettes of New York state seal, bridge over river, and NYC route. Very bold signature by Corning. Erastus Corning (1794-1872) was a famous railroader and politician. He was the first president of the New York Central line, and served as a state senator in New York as well as a Representative in US Congress (during the Civil War). Corning, New York named in his honor. Certificate is in fine condition, with, as typical of this certificate, numerous punch hole cancels (two partly affecting Corning signature).
