1880 Canal Interoceanique de Panama Bond Certificate. Attractive French certificate has vignette of two allegorical women, one representing North America and the other South America, with a canal between them. The French attempt to dig the canal started in 1880, but disease and cost problems led to the failure of the company. Eventually, the U.S. purchased the property from the French and succeeded in completing the Panama Canal. Certificate is in VF condition.
