A lovely little purse dating from the mid to late Victorian period, this tortoise shell beauty was used to hold coins and can still be so used today. Made of tortoise shell in shades of mahogany and blond it makes a wonderful accessory to be placed in a handbag, carried on its own or displayed in one's home. The case is surrounded by silver metal, probably pewter and the same metal is used for a central cartouche that has no monogram on it. The interior is lined in a red taffeta silk lining. The sides of the case are expandable up to about 1/2". The case measures 3" by 2".
Condition is good for this 100+ year old piece. The tortoise shell near the cartouche has one small line. The silk lining is in very good condition and the latch works well.
