The box is made of gilded brass ormolu and has a paper label that says Made in France, Paris. Made in France is also carved into the bottom.
This early 20th century box has a hinged cover decorated with raised metal work depicting people on horseback. It is surrounded by what appears to be satin or silk in a gold color. When you lift the hinged lid there is a beveled glass mirror and a compartment to hold powder, jewels or whatever you wish.
The bottom part of this round box has a wonderful raised metal design of floral urns and swags.
The greatest thing is when you wind the key at the bottom and lift the lid it plays this delightful old fashioned melody I am not familiar with (probably French). Close the lid and the tune stops.
The box has a 3 3/4" diameter and stands 3 1/8" tall on three ball shaped legs.
It is in good overall condition with some dulling of the brass on the outside. The inside mirror has some spotting as well as the interior compartment.
Please Note: Advanced approval is required on any international shipments before placing of orders.
