I am thrilled to present to you this exquisite lap desk or writing slope. This piece is English in origin, and was manufactured in the mid to late 19th century. It is made of papier mache and has a glorious castle scene on top, all done in mother of pearl. The castle is surrounded by trees that have tiny pieces of mother of pearl, inlaid to look like leaves and/or flowers.
