A Large Victorian Era Italian Micromosaic Crucifix / Cross Measuring approx 7.5 " by 4 1/2" . This crucifix is in good vintage condition with normal wear. I note the body of Christ is loose but attached. Featuring a white dove with wings spread flying ( Symbolic bird in Christianity representing the Holy Spirit, Dove, flying symbolizes The Resurrection ), Grapes ( Symbolize- Sacrifice ) Sheaves of wheat (Wheat sheaves Symbolize the divine harvest ) . 4 tools of the Crucifixion: Symbols of The Passion. Hammer used to nail the body to the cross, Pincers used at the crucifixion to take the body down from the cross , Torch one of the emblems of the Betrayal, and, therefore, of the Passion. Roma is stated on the bottom above a pretty floral motif of Passion Flowers symbolism = Passion Flower symbolizes Christ's suffering on the cross. Five Pointed Stars appear at each corner symbolizing the star of Bethlehem and represents Jesus' birth and incarnation. Also known as the Epiphany Star. Please note: Obscured in part by the metal crucifix under the right hand (facing) there is a loss of mosaic tile Bottom end of tools on the bottom and please see last photo for view. I can find no other areas of loss. Good Weight and quality. The metal is silvertone . The cross is approx. 190 grams on my scale. This treasure would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
