The rim is quite large and has a pinched-in area for the spout. The handle is done in a light green colored glass. This was also hand blown then applied to the pitcher
You can see the bubble inclusions in the glass from the hand blowing process which just adds to it's charm and authenticity. There is a rough pontil on the bottom but we were unable to find a maker's mark. This is not unusual for antique glass.
You'll notice we put this next to one of our shaving mugs to give you a visual aid in measuring it's size. Sometimes giving the dimensions doesn't do a piece justice but we will provide them also. The rim diameter is 7" with the actually opening measuring 4" in diameter. The height to the top of the rim is 7.25" and at the fattest part this beauty comes in at 25.5". Although we didn't fill this up and measure it's capacity, we feel this could easily hold one half gallon of liquid.
We hesitate to guess on this but to have a piece of glass like this survive for over 100 years, it was probably cherished and used for decorative purposes only. We did not find so much as a single nick or ding to the glass.
We weighed this in prior to listing because we wanted to let you know that this is not a light weight item. It weighs almost 3.5 lbs on it's own. To protect this during shipping, we'll be double boxing it so the shipping weight and box size does add to the cost. This piece is well worth it and you will just fall in love when you see it.
