EDWARDIAN CAMEO BROOCH Roman Goddess Flora HTF Left Profile Carved Shell Italian Silver c. 1890's

Offering for your consideration is an absolutely wonderful carnelian shell cameo brooch. Our cameo subject is the Roman Goddess Flora. She has a crown of flowers as well as a mantle of leaves and flowers around her shoulders. She looks skyward over her right shoulder as if to welcome the spring sunshine. Based on the carving design I would date this piece in the late 1890's to 1900.

The carving on this shell cameo is phenomenal. Flora's left profile seems to jump out at you and is highly detailed right down to her eyes. There is a wonderful patina to the crevices that brings out the facial features even more. I cannot say enough about her. My pictures do not do her justice.

The hallmarks on this piece are '800' & 'Italy" on the backside interior rim of bezel. The pin itself hooks into a plain hook not a "c" clasp.

You'll notice the nice silver roping around the outside of the bezel. This is a simple decoration that enhances the cameo rather than taking away from the intricate carving of our goddess.

You won't be disappointed in this one. She is just beautiful.
