This absolutely RARE and fabulous print is by the Victorian watercolorist, Paul de Longpre. It is an unpunched, unstamped, unmounted perfume counter display print. The print would have been mounted to cardboard, and then printed with the DaBrooks Perfume Company's script, and the bottom would have been punched with vertical slats through which small sample perfume bottles would have been attached with elastic bands. To find one in this pristine shape and unpunched is truly unheard of. The scarlet red cabbage roses, and loving cup of purple double violets are to die for, in rich hues. It is in the original burnished gold frame, which has beading along the inside edge, and the frame is in very good condition. This print is a chromolithograph from the 1890's, and the backing and nails are still in place. This is one of de Longpre's hardest studies to find, and a great example of old perfume memorabilia. He worked for Da Brooks Perfumes, and did several rose studies for them. Overall size with the frame is 13.5 x 23 inches. The only flaw to mention would be a small bug hole above the top center rose, hardly noticeable. There is some dirt over it on the glass that could be removed easily, but I'll leave that up to the new owner. Please excuse any glass glare in the photos, the colors are even throughout the print. De Longpre and C. Klein were peers in the 1890's, both painting roses. This size is often referred to as a yard long study.
