This lovely study of cabbage roses is by the Victorian illustrator, Frances Walker. Walker specialized in flower studies, and she was painting right alongside both Paul de Longpre and Catherine Klein. This print showcases a loose bouquet of roses, and suggests someone is just now arranging them in a glass rose bowl vase that stands nearby. This old chromolithograph was made in 1900 by the H. A. Thomas & Wylie Lithographic Company of New York, and was an art supplement to the Syracuse Herald on Sunday, August 19th, 1900. It's in good condition with some surface handling wear, and a light watermark top left corner. It is housed in an off-white wooden moulding frame, with three dimensional brass corner bracket embellishments. Overall size is 12 x 19 inches.
