This sweet old Victorian chromolithograph is by the Victorian artist Patty Thum. Thum was famous for her rose studies and was painting right alongside both Paul de Longpre and C. Klein. This lovely image has 3 baby cabbage roses casually laid down, as if they were just freshly picked. The paper has a nice patina, and the print is in very good condition. There is a teenie hole top middle, which can barely be seen, and a slight bend upper right, which is also hardly seen. It is in the original old gesso frame. The frame is burnished gold with heavy gesso raised relief detailing, and has the expected wear with an old piece with rubs and thick paint. At one time, someone hung this piece with two nails set through the middle at either end of the inner frame, but they are very old marks and just add to its vintage appeal. Overall size with the frame is 14.25 x 18 inches. Please excuse any flash or glass glare upper left and on the right. It was hard to photograph, but rest assured the color tones are even throughout the print. Thum's work are very hard to find these days, and this one is just charming.
