SALE 1896 Antique Victorian LILACS Yard Long Print --Signed: Paul de Longpre -- Chromolithograph

This gorgeous antique yardlong of soft lavender and creamy white lilacs is by the French Victorian watercolorist, Paul de Longpre. It is entitled "White and Purple Lilacs". In Victorian times, the purple lilac symbolized "The First Emotions of Love", while the white lilac stood for "Innocent Love". Such a sweet combination portrayal of the Language of Flowers! The blooms are just incredibly beautiful, with outstanding hues and lovely coloring. It is signed lower right "Paul de Longpre 1896". This would have been one of his studies completed while he was still on the East Coast, before his final migration to the Hollywood area. It is an old stone chromolithograph too. This came out of Bozeman, Montana.

This yardlong is in beautiful condition, with very little handling wear at the edges. The shading is even throughout the print, please note that I took the photos near a window, so the left side appears a little lighter. (Those white lines in the photos are just glass glare, not on the print.) It is housed in a gold finish contemporary frame with a nice scroll motif and inner beaded area. I tell ya, I haven't had one this nice in all my years of collecting! They are getting so hard to find in nice condition. This print measures aprox 12 x 38 inches framed. Please note: postage is an estimate, and will be adjusted at checkout if needed. We have so many prints, we just can't box them all ahead of time, no room to store them that way!
