Unbelievable, superb, rare as rare can be! The 1889 book is a first edition entitled "Birds and Butterflies". The blue cloth cover is gilded in both gold and silver, with a lovely fairy lady and butterflies. It is by Musgraves, and was published by the Elder Publishing Company, Chicago, IL. This is really a neat piece of Americana. It's called a "fan pull", and was normally hung from a ceiling fan in old Victorian times. It's a grand advertisement for J. P. Alley's Hambone Cigar Sweets, and depicts an African American pilot soaring high in his plane. Below him in the graphics is the Eiffel Tower.
